Resolved Question: College and The Airforce life.?
My boyfriend and I are best friends, we hang out every single day, i’m best friends with his parents and close to his family. I truly love him and would do anything to be with him. So when he decided to join the Air Force I supported him thinking we’d still be living in Oklahoma when we moved in with each other after I graduated highschool. Though he wants to get based in England or Germany - which is cool with me because I want to travel around the world. But i’m a senior in highschool, graduating in may, and i am determined to attend college. I want to marry him and live with him after I graduate (matter of time wasnt important until he signed his airforce contract, so now figuring out how to be with each other is hard). I am the type of person who always needs a plan or i freak out, so i have absolutely no clue what to do about college! We dont know if he will be based somewhere far or somewhere close until the summer of 2010 which is AFTER i graduate.
so i guess im trying to figure out what im supposed to do about college.
do i apply for colleges with abroad programs just in case? apply for colleges in the u.s. just in case, or do i just wait until we’re based somewhere to start applying for colleges? or is there a college on the airforce base, or on some airforce bases, and how i can get into one of those?
and i know that if your married then the spouse could possibly get college paid for, so should i wait for college until im married? because money is an issue too (i need scholarships to go to college!)

please help, because the only responses ive gotten is “your too young to move across the world” and “split up cause it’s not gonna work”.

I, am far more confident in my relationship than people think. So advice from airforce wives or even other airforce people would be awesome, and ultra helpful.
Thank you.

Resolved Question: Is going to an out-of-state college a bad idea for me?
I’m 20, from Oklahoma, and just got my AS from the local community college. I’m also pre-med, bisexual, atheist, and very liberal.

I intended to go to OU in-state, but now I feel like I’d rather go to a university where I’d be more surrounded by like-minded people, and in an extremely gay-friendly environment. I want to feel comfortable and free to be myself, and I’m not sure I’ll be that happy at OU.

But if I go out-of-state (to a school with a high “gay-friendliness” rank), many universities are 10x as expensive! I have no savings, and my parents have no savings. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get much scholarship money.. My record looks like:
HS GPA: 3.5
College GPA: 3.8 (3.9 retention)
ACT: 32
Volunteer hours: Several hundred throughout my two years at CC, with a President’s Volunteer Service Award to show for it
SAT: Haven’t dug it up yet, but probably not the best (I would have been in like 9th/10th grade)

It’d be depressing, but I’d like to know the truth if it’s just a really bad idea or even plain not possible to transfer out-of-state without saving up for a couple years..

Open Question: Career advice. Should I do what I love or what will help me make bank?
I’m currently 18 and on the cusp of deciding what I’d like to do for the rest of my un-retired life. I’d really like a stable career, but none really interest me. I’ve always wanted to be a filmmaker, since childhood, but have long given up that dream (or at least, faced the realities about said dream.) It’s a fickle industry, especially where I am from, and doesn’t seem likely to give me a secure, comfortable monthly income unless I go to work for some network, etc. And film schools are freaking EXPENSIVE. Being 18, I have literally no money or means to afford such a school. (No college fund either.)

On the other hand, there’s a job that I seem capable of. Air Traffic Controlling. My father worked for the FAA for nearly 35 years and it always provided us with a modest living. He now teaches it at a university in Oklahoma City. I must admit that I’m not exactly very interested in this sort of work, but it’s a job and not everyone has the luxury of absolutely enjoying their chosen career paths.

So here’s the conundrum. Do I try my hand at some expensive film or other creative arts school and try to work my way into film or television production (something that I know from secondhand experience isn’t that easy or reliable to do) or do I try for a local college I can afford and eventually school with my father to learn air traffic controlling, a career I wouldn’t necessarily mind, and have a steady, dependable income that I can use to support myself and my hobbies in filmmaking and music?

I’ve racked my mind about this over and over again. I’ve considered nearly every career I know of, and it always seems to come back down to these two.

What should I do? Or, rather, what would YOU do?

Thanks in advance.

Open Question: Is Ryan Broyles actually the best player in college football?
If this guy doesn’t miss a couple of games with a broken shoulder blade, he would win the Heisman. Not even getting nominated for the Biletnikoff is the crime of the century!
What I like best is that he is a local kid who grew up in Norman, Oklahoma in the shadow of Owen Field.

Open Question: How ’bout that Oklahoma defense?

Boomer Sooner!
