Resolved Question: What is life like in Oklahoma? Specifically the Oklahoma City/Norman area?
I am considering returning to college for a very specific major, and the University of Oklahoma specializes in it. (OK, it is meteorology) I have also investigated Penn State, which is closer to my area and also has a solid meteorology program. However, I want to be in an atmosphere where I can experience some actual severe weather and perhaps participate in tornado research projects. The thing is, I live in PA and have never visited Oklahoma or any of the midwestern states. I have researched the school’s reputation and some information on living in Oklahoma - but I am interested in some real substantive, nonbiased information on daily life in OK. Where can I find cultural activities in central Oklahoma? Are there interesting attractions to visit in the area?

Also, I would appreciate it if only those who currently live or have lived for a period of at least a year in OK would answer this question. Out of curiosity, how often did your area of Oklahoma experience tornado warnings and/or actual tornadoes? Aside from the tornadoes and severe weather during the spring and fall, what was your opinion of the area’s climate? Thank you for your help with this potentially life-altering decision.

Resolved Question: Can someone tell me about life in Austin Texas?
I’m a single male, young professional in my early 30’s. I have been approached by a job opportunity in Austin. I have always wanted to live in a city such as Tulsa, or Wichita being from Oklahoma….Maybe even Oklahoma City. Can someone that has been to Austin and Tulsa/Wichita tell me about how the towns compare? Austin’s demographics look a lot like Tulsa to me, except it is a major college town. I am also interested in other things about Austin such as cost of living, traffic, activities availible-concerts. Can someone help me out?

Voting Question: How would you notice if there is an tornado on the ground at night when there is no daylight ?
I’ve moved to Oklahoma city in Oklahoma to stay for college at the university. My 16 story dorm building is about half a mile from the school and sometimes i walk to there and sometimes home at night, as you know Oklahoma is tornado alley state and we always get tornadic storms. It was raining and lightning very crazy last night and there was a tornado watch but thank god nothing formed out of the storms. In case there was a tornado warning at night in my area, how would i detect a tornado is on the ground ? Because sometimes i am in my dorm alone at night so i don’t know how to know if one is coming, should i check use my computer’s internet to detect a tornado ? Also, because sometimes i walk to fast food restaurants at night to get food so i want to know how i could detect if there’s a tornado so i could take cover before it’s too late. Can anyone please help me out ? I would like to know before i get killed by one of these storms.
