Mark Huber's Blog: Heading to the great Southwest
So yesterday I traveled from Oklahoma City over to Albuquerque in New Mexico, with a brief visit to Texas in the middle. Texas does have the coolest rest stops, and all of them have Wi-Fi, even if it is a pretty weak signal. … They have a unique setup, with the museum being run by the Mesalands Community College. What do they have that most places don’t? Access to a foundry. Most of their casts are actually solid bronze, and I must say, that makes for a real cool …  read more…

Voting Question: Education Advisor preferred or History Major?
I’m a Sophomore at Oklahoma City Community College, and I’m currently a history major.

I went to my student services office a few days ago trying to find a job on campus; however as I was trying to fill out my resume an older lady that worked there was asking me all these questions. When she found out I was a History major planning on becoming a teacher she told me I should double major in order to find a job easier. She made my major sound like nothing, and that it wasn’t in high demand and it would be easier for me if I double major in math or science.

This has been bothering me, and I was wondering if it true or not and why. I would rather hear from teachers or someone pursuing a history major.

Resolved Question: Is it a good idea to become an esthetician to work my way through college?
I’ve recently graduated High School and I wanted to take some time off before I jumped right into getting my degree in Political Science. I really enjoy cosmetology and the idea of becoming an esthetician to work my way through college sounded like a pretty good idea considering I can do that while I’m on my ‘hiatus’ from school.

I realize that this is also school but I think it’s quite different than going to a four year college.

I plan on going to beauty school in Oklahoma City, if that helps any. How long does it take to acquire the esthetician license? Is it wise to do this before diving into college?

Also– can esthetician’s cut/perm hair? Or would you need a full cosmetology license for that? .. Or.. well, are they the same thing? I’ve been researching it but thusfar, I’ve found nothing that’s been overly helpful.
